Branch, Family

By the Swedish Biographical Dictionary

Gren, medieval family of salvation, whose family name can be traced back to 1424 at the earliest. of the years 1312—19. The former son Inge Kettilbjörnsson (still living in 1335) became a knight shortly before his death. His brother Ernils Kettilbjörnsson (still living in 1330), known as one of those who in 1320 for King Magnus Eriksson's guardian government negotiated with King Birger's followers in Viborg, became the father of Harald Ernilsson (still alive in 1360). He probably married a dtr descended from his mother from Earl Birger to the councilor Torkel Andersson (boat).

In the 1370s, their son Torkel Haraldsson (d. 1402) had to make pilgrimages to Rome, Aachen and Nidaros for a murder. Later he was district chief in several districts in Södermanland and Östergötland. Torkel Haraldsson was dubbed a knight in the autumn of 1389, probably at the Lord's Day in Söderköping, where Queen Margaret took power in Sweden, and was later named courtier at Ämnisholm in Småland. In 1398 he was a member of King Erik's Union Council, but he never belonged to the Swedish National Council.

His brother, the district chief in Österrekarne (Söd) Sten Haraldsson (still living 1417) on Ål (now Grensholmen) in Vånga (Ög), married a daughter of King Erik Magnusson's councilor Nils Magnusson (Ivar Nilsson's family) father of Riksrådet Magnus G (G 1). His son Councilor Ivar G (G 2) became the father of Councilor Måns G (G 3). Family G died out with two of the latter's sisters, who were still alive in the early 1540s. Among its descendants on the women's side was King Gustav I, whose grandmother's mother was the niece of G 1. The family

name survives in the farm name Grensholmen. Namely, G l's manor was called Ål from around 1510 by his son-in-law Erik Ryning, who then owned it.
