About Tristram Bethea Thomas
Note on Tristram Bethea Thomas (son of Mallery Thomas)
Born March 5, 1787 and died July 16, 1845
Colonel Tristram B. Thomas, born on the Cumberland River near Nashville Tenn in 1787, was a conspicuous figure in the life of the Mississippi River Valley. In the War of 1812, he was a captain and later a colonel in the American forces and he participated in the Battle of New Orleans. In after years he was commissioned to construct a military road from New Orleans to Nashville and as a reward for service received a grant to an entire township of land near the Mississippi River. However, this land was lost through lack of proper attention (probably by the next generation).
