Mr. and Mrs. John Mulliken, well known residents of the 2nd Ward of Hastings, celebrated their golden anniversary of their marriage on Tuesday with about 75 guests present to enjoy the festivities. Mrs. Mulliken, whose maiden name was Betsey Moon, was born in Pittsford, near Hudson, Michigan, 08 Jul 1844. Mr. Mulliken was born in Dover Township, Michigan 26 Jun 1837. Mr. Mulliken served during the last three years of the Civil War in Company G, 2nd Michigan Cavalry.

About 27 years ago Mr. & Mrs. Mulliken moved to Barry County. They have been residents of Hastings for 8 years. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Muilliken. The four who survive are Mrs. George Boorom of Hastings Twp., Mrs. Cora Chambers of Hesperia, Michigan, Edwin and John of this city. They have 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The guests began to assemble in the afternoon. Mr. & Mrs. Mulliken occupied a booth, trimmed in yellow and white, on the lawn. A white wedding bell was suspended over their heads. The guests assembled on the lawn and marched to the dining room at 4:00 PM where an excellent dinner had been prepared by Mrs. Wood, caterer. The dining room was decorated in gold and white.

At half past 5:00 a pleasing program was carried out as follows: singing by Lulu and Roland McCreery, a talk on "Fifty Years of Married Life" by Reverend Charles M. Duryea, a song by Leona Kilmer, recitations by Mrs. John Mulliken, Jr. and Norman Chambers, a song by Reverend and Mrs. Watrous, and the benediction by Reverend Sheehan.

The guests remained until late in the evening. They left many handsome presents to gladden the hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Mulliken who had had so many happy years of married life. In the cake was ring the finder of which was to entertain the company next year. The ring fell to Mrs. Mulliken.

Those present from afar were: Mrs. William Morgan, Mrs. Elsie Putnam, Miss Josephine Tripp, Charles Putnam, all of Hillsdale, Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Whelpley, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chambers and son, Norman, of Hesperia, Michigan; Mrs. Eveline Whelpley of Grand Ledge, Michigan, Mrs. Wilbur Zimmerman of Mobile, Alabama and Reverend Sarah Lane of Parmalee, Michigan.

The event was pleasing for everyone who attended, and the friends of Mr. and Mrs. Mulliken hope the couple will enjoy many more anniversaries."
