In an insert from "Little Tales About Hawaii" by Clarice B Tylor, there is a segment entitled, ULULANI THE POETESS.
"Ululani was one of the most renowned women of her day, being a chiefess of the Maui line and the outstanidng poet of her generation. Keawe-a-Heulu took Ululani to live near Waiohinu in the ka-u district. There she bore him two children who were to become equally famous. They were Naihe, the orator and Keohohiwa, great grandmother of great musicians of the 19th centruy who included Kalakaua, and Liliuokalani.
Ululani was loved by her own people both because of her personal character and because she was of sacred lineage. The Ka-u people loved her equally well.
One day Keawe-a-Heulu struck Ululani in a fit of rage. To his amazement, the people of Ka-u joined Ululani's retainers in retaliation, They drove him from the house and stoned him as he fled across the fields.
The warrior chief had to run for his life. And though he out ran his outraged people, he kept running seeking a hiding place."
