- SIR WILLIAM DALTON, knt. of York, one of the king's council for the northern parts. This gentleman, who was bred to the bar, filled the office of recorder of York and Hull, and was subsequently appointed by James I. attorney-general to the court at York, receiving, at the same time, the honor of knighthood. Sir William died in 1649. His son and heir,
