About Vail M. Pittman, Governor
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vail_M._Pittman
Vail Montgomery Pittman (September 17, 1880 – January 29, 1964) was an American politician. He was the 19th Governor of Nevada. He was a member of the Democratic Party.
Pittman was elected the 19th Lieutenant Governor of Nevada in 1942. He was a candidate in the Democratic primary for United States Senate in 1944, but was defeated by the incumbent, Pat McCarran. He became governor when Edward P. Carville resigned in 1945. Pittman served until 1951.
Pittman was the younger brother of Key Pittman, a longtime United States Senator from Nevada.
Pittman died on January 29, 1964 in a hospital in San Francisco, California, at the age of 83.
Note: Vail's birth year is given in various sources as 1880, 1881, and 1883. However, his mother, Catherine (Key) Pittman, died on January 4, 1881, so only the earliest date is tenable.
