About Pvt. Valentine Rowell, CSA
- During the Civil War, Valentine served as a private in Company L, 21st South Carolina Infantry Regiment.
- Valentine was a son of David J. and Rebecca Phillips Rowell. He married Mary F. Collins in 1847.
- Valentine died at his home in Centenary at the age of 85. He had been quite ill for some time, and his death was not unexpected.
- He was one of the oldest and most widely known and highly esteemed citizens of lower Marion. Inscription: "Gone but not forgotten"
