About Veil Fulda

Tombstone inscription:

Veil, wife of Aharon Fulda. | ... | 3 | ... | ... | ... | 6 | afflicts, woe, | their glory to earth | humiliated, Veil, daughter | 9 | of the head Natan Bonn, his memory to bless, | Your soul is involved in the bundle of life

Steinheim Institute Commentary:

Dating Died, Friday, January 28th, 1650 The date and parts of the eulogy are unfortunately weathered. According to sk, Veil died on day 6 after noon, 26th Schwat, and was buried on day 1, 28th Schwat, near the center of the cemetery; The tomb of her mother Pessle (HoSt 689) is aligned to the right of her head. Spelling of the name: in the inscription וייאל, also in the original sk, while Unna in the sk copy erroneously? וואל indicates. The MF writes פייאל. The stone consists of three parts that lie against the wall or are erected. There is no reason to believe that this stone was one of the "selected" ones. It is not particularly large, the house sign is barely visible. Veil was not a Rothschild or rabbi wife. Another is the tripartite division of the stone, which was done mechanically. The "selected" stones, however, were largely spared. Zln 6b-8a: reminiscent of Klgl 2,11; the pun כבד, "Leber" and כבוד, "glory", several times in the middle of the 17th century (e.g. Ho 737 from 1648, No. ffb-0520 from 1650, No. ffb -0788 from 1652, Ho 791 from 1654). מטופלת not sure. Zl 7: letter as line filler. Zl 8: "degraded", cf. 1 Sam 2,7; alef-lamed ligature. Abbreviation period ?; Sentence separator: half-high point.

Stylistic device Rhyme with -ele in lines 5 and 7.

Tombstone description Dimensions (42 + 53) x 71 x 11 cm Description Retracted arch, remains of a rosette on the right corner. Double-chamfered frame, fluted on the sides, remains of ornaments on the left side of the frame. The header in the middle is interrupted by the house sign. House sign bell? Condition The stone consists of three fragments, set up or lying on the wall. The lying section is heavily weathered.
