About Veldkornet Gerhardus Carolus Nicolaas Renke
The town Schweizer-Reneke in North West, South Africa is named after Captain Constantine Schweizer and Field Cornet Gerhardus Carolus Nicolaas Renke (Reneke). Both men distinguished themselves and were among the ten soldiers killed while storming the stronghold of the Khoi Koi Koranna Khoe and their chief David Massouw on the nearby Mamusa Hill on 2 December 1885 during an action to put an end to cattle rustling in the area.
