MORGANTOWN — Velma I. Stines, formerly of Princeton, departed this life Friday, February 12, 2010, at a Morgantown hospital following a short illness. Mrs. Stines was a retired nurse's aide, and was a devoted and loving mother.

Born December 5, 1929, in Hazard, KY, she was the daughter of the late David Hillman Haynes (1901-1977) and Goldie May Cook-Haynes (1900-1970). Mrs. Stines was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Leo Stines (1922-1976) whom she married on March 10, 1947 in Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1947, Page 300, Application Date: February 21, 1947); two brothers, James Haynes (Deceased) and Avery Lee Haynes (1925-1966); and three sisters, Joann Haynes-Terry (Deceased), Virginia Haynes-Hawkins (Deceased) and Lona Bell Haynes-Hall (1920-2005).

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Roger Stines & wife Vonneva Stines of Virginia Beach, and Alvin Stines & wife Kathy Stines of Macon GA; a daughter, Kay Stines-Fanok & husband Stephen Fanok of Morgantown; two sisters, Francis Haynes-King of Iaeger and Vonnie Jean Haynes-Curry (1935-2014) of Cyclone; a brother, Franklin Haynes of Ocala, FL; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

A celebration of Mrs. Stines' life will be at 1:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with Rev. Russell King officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
