Velna Peniston Peyton

Velna Peniston Peyton, 99, of Spotsylvania County went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. She was daughter of the late William Terrell and Lila Seay Massey.

Mrs. Peyton was a 1935 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Spotsylvania. She had retired from Leggett’s in Fredericksburg.

She was a devoted member of Travelers Rest Baptist church for 80 years. She touched the lives of many people through the years and will be missed by her family, friends, neighbors and her church family whom she loved so dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George C. Peyton Sr.; four brothers, William Arritt Massey (Bertha), James Maxwell Massey, Walter Thomas Massey Sr. (Betty Lou) and Connie Wallace Massey (Mae); and one sister, Frances Massey Ellis.

She is survived by her son, George C. Peyton Jr. (Courtenay); daughter Jean Peyton Davis (Ron); six grandchildren, Lt. Col. Jon Davis, Arnold Terrell Peyton, Michelle Traylor, Jean Frances Peyton Davis, Mary Margaret Peyton Davis and Jeffrey Adam Johnson; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Colonel Jon Davis, Arnold Terrell Peyton, Michelle Traylor, Jean Frances Peyton Davis, Mary Margaret Peyton Davis, Jeffrey Adam Johnson; and 14 great- grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
