Burial was followed at 12:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mannford, Oklahoma. Venita passed away Wednesday September 28, 2005. She was 76 years old.

Venita was born to Clyde Allean and Robert Chancy Leonard on January 26, 1929. She spent her childhood with her brothers, and her sisters, living on a farm on a hill overlooking the small Arkansas community of Palestine, located south of Fort Smith. Venita attended Greenwood High School, graduating in 1947.

In 1949, Venita married Sherman Gerald Vineyard, who was then a private in the Army. They made their first home in El Paso, Texas, where he was stationed. Following his honorable discharge, they moved back to Palestine and raised their two daughters. In 1965, the family moved to Tulsa and later settled in Claremore, Oklahoma. Venita raised canaries and this hobby became a small business. For several years, she supplied birds to the local Wal-Mart and small Pets Stores and also gave classes on Bird care.

Her daughter Susan gave birth to her only grandchild, Jon Joseph in 1993, and Venita and Sherman delighted in being grandparents.

Her husband Sherman died in 1998 and Venita continued to live in the rural Claremore home, building fences, climbing trees and being there for everyone.

Those who survived are her daughters; her grandson; her sister; and her brother. Venita was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband; a brother, R. Charles Leonard; and a sister, Ailean Gotwalt.
