Verna Evelyn Pratt, 90, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away on July 20, 2015, at CHI St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge. The visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Thursday, July 23, at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge. The visitation will continue at Breckenridge Lutheran Church from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Friday, July 24, followed by the funeral service at 2:00. Lay minister, Rene Hasbargen will be officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Breckenridge. Verna Jacobs, was born in Wahpeton, ND, on May 22, 1925, the only daughter of Frank and Emma (Max) Jacobs. She grew up northeast of Breckenridge on the family farm and attended District 56 Country School. Following her graduation from Breckenridge High School in 1943, Verna was employed at a grocery store in Wahpeton. She was united in marriage to Clifford Pratt on October 16, 1945, at Breckenridge Lutheran Church. Shortly thereafter, Clifford entered the US Army, and Verna remained on the family farm. At the end of the war, Clifford was discharged from the army and he rejoined his family and together they farmed and raised their family. They retired from farming in 1982 and then moved into Breckenridge. Clifford passed away on April 14, 2008, and then in 2012, Verna moved to Twin Town Villa in Breckenridge. Verna loved her small-town roots and planted them firmly in the Breckenridge area. She appreciated the simpler things in life like tending her vegetable and flower gardens, the laughter shared during a good game of pinochle, and the satisfaction of placing the last piece of her jigsaw puzzle. She was an avid reader and a seasoned cook, and delighted in preparing home-cooked meals for family and friends. Verna's legacy of strong character and thoughtful disposition will never be forgotten by her family. Verna is survived by her two children, daughter, Diane (Steve) Baker of Michigan, ND and son, Dr. Ronald (Judy) Pratt of Ramsey, MN; her five grandchildren, Shannon Baker and Brandon Baker; Andrew (Erin) Pratt; Mark (Jessica) Pratt; and Scott Pratt; her four great-grandchildren, Morgan Presnell and Jacob Presnell, Henry Pratt and Joseph Pratt; her brother, Russel Jacobs; and many nieces and nephews. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Emma; her husband, Clifford; her sister-in-law, Joan Jacobs; and her niece, Barbara Moellenkamp.
