Vernon Owens Obituary

VERNON OWENS, 69 years of age, of the Rt. 2 Section of Vansant, VA, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2006 after sustaining injuries in an automobile accident on Rt. 83 near Prater, VA. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late John Kilby and Lillie Owens Owens. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Big Prater Primitive Baptist Church for more than 40-years where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. He was a retired employee of General Telephone Co. where he served for 23-years and worked 10-years for Rexall Drug Store, Grundy, VA. Mr. Owens is a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Mr. Owens is survived by his wife: Lois Ann Stiltner Owens, Vansant, VA, 3-Sons: Gary and wife Donita Owens, Spartanburg, SC, Greg and wife Teresa Owens, Spartanburg, SC, Geoff Owens, Spartanburg, SC, 1-Sister: Arbutus and husband Elmer Lockhart, Vansant, VA.

Also, survived by 4-Grandchildren: Eric Owens, Whitney Owens, Cody Owens and Rachael Owens.

He was preceded in death by 1-Sister: Ollie Breeding, July 24, 2006; 2-Brothers: Clovis and Verland Owens and 3-Infant Brothers.

Funeral Services for VERNON OWENS will be conducted Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at the Big Prater Primitive Baptist Church with Elders: Elzie Mullins, Bufford Stacy, Aaron Williams and Keith Bowers officiating with burial to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia.

Friends may call at the Big Prater Primitive Baptist Church Friday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be: James A. Clevinger, Parker Owens, Jr., Eric Owens, Kennith Owens, Stephen Owens and Cody Owens.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Men of the Big Prater Primitive Baptist Church.
