Vernon Young Taylor

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 9 at the Bakersfield East Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints, Panorama Drive and Fairfax St., for Vernon Young Taylor, who died Wednesday, January 6 in Los Angeles. Visitation will be at Hillcrest Mortuary from 7 to 9 p.m. Internment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Taylor was born August 23, 1914 in Ogden, Utah, the 6th child of William and Eliza Mae Taylor. Mr. Taylor was reared in Ogden but moved with his wife and children in 1950 to Bakersfield. He was a practicing public accountant owning his own firm for close to 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Staff Sgt. in the Airborne Army in the Pacific Theatre.

Mr. Taylor was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints. He held many responsible positions including Mission President, Branch President, High Councilor and numerous teaching positions. He served faithfully for 30 years in assignments in the Bakersfield area. He was a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints during the years 1935-1937 in the Church's mission in Czechoslovakia during which time he mastered the Czech language.

Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Donna Anderson Taylor, three surviving children; Kristine Richards, Val David Taylor and Ann Rebecca Hunt all of Bakersfield. A son, Vernon Young Taylor II preceded him in death. In addition, Mr. Taylor is survived by 9 grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Taylor and Lowell Taylor and a sister, Elma Couch all of Utah.
