Vijayram Murthy was brought up in Madras. His schooling was in Theosophical Society School. After schooling he went to Maharaja College in Vijayanagaram in Andhra Pradesh and then moved to Banaras Hindu University to complete his graduation. He then went to Allahabad University to do Post Graduation in Zoology. Post this he started as a lecturer in Zoology in Raipur before retiring as a Head Of the Department of Zoology in Institute of Science, Nagpur.

He lived a peaceful life in Nagpur thereafter. He was married to Jayalakshmi (Kotikalpudi) and has 4 children (3 Sons & 1 daughter). All are married.
