About Viktor Veit Homburger
Victor and his brother Paul were forced to sign their family's bank in Karlsruhe over to the Nazi government after being sent to Dachau shortly after Kristallnacht of November 1938.Once they signed the bank over they were allowed to return to Karlsruhe. Victor, His wife Marianne and his brother Paul were all deported to Gurs, France concentration camp in 1940. The three managed to escape from the camp and through the underground via Marseille, France then Spain and finally to Lisbon where they were able to board the SS Nyassa for New York City. They arrived in New York on June 13, 1941 and were permitted entry due to the work of Richard and Fred Homburger (Paul's sons who were already in New York) and Max Bredig the Brother of Marianne.
