!E-MAIL: Greetings, I am the great-great-granddaughter of Mary May Gillian. In reading your family grouping on Ancestry. com I noticed that you had her listed as a daughter of Major M. and Mary "Polly" Grimmett Gillian. I have a copy of Mary May's obit from the Cassville Republican Newspaper dated Thursday, 12 Dec 1929. It said she was the daughter of Dow and Celia Gillian. The Obit went on to say that both parents died when she and her two sisters were quite young and were reared by her grandparents Major M. and Mary Gillian. A little more information on Mary May she was born 20 Dec 1844 in Johnson County, AR and died 9 Dec 1929 in Cassville, Barry, MO. She is buried beside her second husband Dr. John Turner Horner in the Horner Cemetery. Mary first married Francis Marion Dunlap.

They had two daughters Vina and Mandy. Mandy died at the age of 14. Vina married Abe Howard and had seven children. Marion died while serving as a soldier in the Confederate Army. In 1865 she married my great-great-grandfather Dr. John Turner Horner in Webster County, MO. In 1866 they moved to Cassville, MO

. They had eight children: John Turner, William Albert, Zilphia who died at an early age, Mattie, Ollie, Zora (my great-grandmother), Nellie and Lottie who died in infancy. "Her funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Cassville Dec. 11, conducted by Rev. J.T. Grattin and interment made in the Horner Cemetery south of town." Her husband, Dr. Horner was born 22 Sept 1826 in Perryville, Perry, Tennessee. He was the son of Spencer Horner and Permelia Thrner Horner. He died 27 Jun 1911 at Cassville, MO at the home of his son J. Turner from complications suffered from a fall. He was 85 and the oldest practicing physician in Barry County.
