The camp, named in honor of Brigadier General Allison Nelson, was stricken by disease resulting in 1,500 deaths including Nelson. After the Civil War burial sites from all around the camp area were exhumed, and moved to a this cemetery. By that time most of the wooden markers had decayed, and the decision was made to consider them all unknown, although at that point some few were still identified. The names of the soldiers buried there are all well documented. There are 2 burials listed here. This is not a complete inventory of this cemetery. I am researching the Dunlap family of Arkansas. This family was part of a large wagon train heading for California in 1857.The hardships and sacrifices they endured on a daily basis was incredible. But this was a strong willed and a financially sound group of pioneers. With everything going as planned, the wagon train entered Utah. After traveling down to the southern part of the state, they camped at a beautiful place called Mountain Meadows. This is where the whole wagon train was massacred by the hands of Latter Day Saints. James D Dunlap lost most of there children.I'm also interested in the child that stayed in Utah. That subject seems to be hush hush here in Utah.
