Virginia Smith married William T. Clayton, Sr (1815-1891) on 6 June 1843 in Bath County, Kentucky. Virginia listed eight children in the 1900 census. Seven children are named below; the eighth child is unknown.
Virginia was the daughter of William Smith and Mary "Polly" Ward. After Virginia's mother died, Virginia's Aunt Eliza Ward Crawford brought Virginia to her home in Salt Lick about 1842. Virginia lived with her aunt a short time before marrying William Clayton in June, 1843.
Husband William was the son of Charles Clayton 1793-1865 and Dorothy Barnes 1793-1851, who married in 1814, Bath County, Kentucky.
