Oom Andries was the owner of Vissershoek. Vissershoek has the unique reputation of being one of the original farms built and laid out by Governor Simon van der Stel.

Andries Jacobus Bester van Niekerk was the Field Cornet (Lieutenant) for the ward Palen and Riet Vlei for the Division of the Cape.
