Lourens Johannes Erasmus *16.1.1800 +2.2.1876 x (14.7.1823 Cradock) Johanna Maria Elisabeth van Straten. Hy trek saam met Potgieter in 1836 en neem deel aan die Slag van Italeni. Hy was laerkommandant by Bloedrivier. Na sy vertoef in Natal trek hy in 1845 na Orighstad waar hy hom wou vestig. Dit is nie bekend hoe lank hy daar gewoon het nie. Weens die koors, malaria en tsetsevlieg vertrek hy na Moosrivier/Selonsrivier waarna hy hom op Doornkraal naby Cullinan gevestig het. Boer op Elandsrivier in die distrik Pretoria met sy dood.
Hulle staan bekend as die Van Straat Erasmusse - Bron: Danie Erasmus, Erasmussa gesprekgroep met verwysing na G.S. Preller se boek Talana bl.54 en 55.

Lourens Johannes Erasmus, a field-cornet who took part in several frontier wars, trekked in 1836 and in 1838 fought at the battle of Blood River. His son, Daniel, became a member of the Executive Council of the Transvaal Republic and acted as President (Nov. 1871 - July 1872) after the resignation of M.W. Pretorius.
