Watt is believed to have had five wives and at least fifteen children: Wadaya (Ahnickie) , Charlotte Wolfe (William and Jim), Lydia Thrower (Rachel, Ned, Mary, Goback, Jack, Annie, Darkie, and Jennie), Aggie Dick (Ball) , and Nannie Dick (Quatsy and Diana). [2] In 1851 Watt was living in the Flint district with wives Charlotte and Lydia and children William , Jim, and Rachel. [3] The 1893 Cherokee payroll shows Wat living in the Tahlequah District with his youngest daughter, Dianna. Children Ball, Mary, Jennie, and Annie are living nearby. [4]

Cherokee Name: Wa-de Wa-ki-gu.
Cherokee Evaluations of 1836 lists Watt Christie as 24 yrs. old and living on a farm at the mouth of the Valley River in NC, making his birthdate 1812. In later years, Watt would recall how he and his brothers dug for gold. In Dec, he left with his wife Wa-da-ya and his father and was foorced to march westward on the Trail of Tears.
Records do not show the elder Ned Christie as surviving [he did; died about 1845], but Watt did and settled in Rabbit Trap (Wauhillau), which was called Ah-wah-hi-lah, but the sound switched in later years to Wauhillau. It is about 5 miles nw of Rabbit Trap, in the Going Snake Dist., 12 miles east of Tahlequah. The Killing of Ned Christie notes that Watt Christie enlisted in the Civil War at the age of 41, making his birthdate somewhere around 1820.
It also states that he enlisted in Capt. Budd Gritts’ home guards and was assigned as blacksmith to Co. G 2nd Regiment of Union Volunteers. He was dischared 32 May 1865 at Ft. Gibson, CN, IT. Drews Regiment Muster Roll, 05 Nov, 1861: lists watt in Co., E, along with brothers James [sic, son] and Arch. This Regiment was mostly full bloods and members of the Keetoowah Society. By 06 Jul 1862, for all intents and purposes this Regiment was disbanded, due to most of Drew’s Cherokee deserting (not all were deserters as they reenlisted in the Union Forces). The majority of these soldiers became part of the Union 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Indian Home Guards under Co. William Weer.
