Waldo Maurice Kruse, 91, of rural Fort Calhoun, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Services were Wednesday, June 2, at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Waldo Maurice Kruse was born March 25, 1908, to Wilhelm F. and Minnie (Stoltenberg) Kruse on a farm southwest of Fort Calhoun.

He attended school in the Greene District and later at Fort Calhoun Schools where he graduated in 1925. After spending the summer semester at Wayne State College, he transferred to Iowa State College where he earned a degree in animal husbandry in 1930.

On June 21, 1933, he married Christine E. Steyer of rural Omaha.

A lifetime farmer and livestock feeder in the Garryowen and DeSoto area, he enjoyed gardening, tending flowers and fruits, and spending time outdoors.

He was a member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church since the age of seven. He served on several governing boards of the church, on the county extension board, on the board of county supervisors and on the rural fire protection board. He was also secretary of the Washington County Farmers Mutual Insurance Company for 30 years.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and William Anderson of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Charlotte and William Lewis of Maywood; son and daughter-in-law, Richard W. and Evelyn Kruse of Fort Calhoun; grandchildren, Anne Anderson of Omaha, Ellen Anderson of Washington, D.C., Glen Anderson and his wife, Simone, of Palo Alto, Calif., Jay Kruse of Mountain View, Calif., Janet Kruse Sellon and her husband, Dan, of Lincoln, Jodi Kruse of Atlanta, Ga., Steven Hermelbracht of Bancroft, James Hermelbracht of Champaign, Ill.; four great-granddaughters, Dale, Paige and Quinn Anderson, and Addison Sellon; and many relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine, five brothers and two sisters.
