Walk-kas was a Prairie Band Potawatomi man

Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation (Potawatomi: Mshkodéniwek, formerly the Prairie Band of Potawatomi Indians) is a federally recognized tribe of Neshnabé (Potawatomi people), headquartered near Mayetta, Jackson County, Kansas.

Under the Indian Removal Act, the Prairie Band were forcibly relocated west, first to Missouri's Platte County in the mid-1830s and then to the vicinity of Council Bluffs, Iowa in the 1840s, where they were known as the Bluff Indians.

After 1846, the tribe moved to present-day Kansas.

Biography:
Walk-kas was born to unknown parents in an unknown location c. 1845 as taken from the existing Indian census of the Potawatomi. Walk-kas fathered three sons but his wife or partners are not identified in the Indian census reports.

According to Carla Joinson in her book Vanished in Hiawatha, was admitted to the Canton Asylum on April 17, 1912, from Jackson County, KS. No diagnosis was given.

In the letter dated February 17, 1934, from Dr. L.L. Culp to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Dr. Culp advised that Walk-kas was admitted from Mayette, (Jackson County), KS, and died January 21, 1917. He was buried in the Canton Hiawatha Cemetery in tier 1 plot 89.

-Walk-kas is in neither the 1917 nor 1918 Potawatomi census, effectively confirming his date of death before June 30, 1917
-I have found no records that indicate his stay in the Canton Asylum
