About Walter Christian Bang
He was called Walter after coming to the United States.
He immigrated to North Dakota - and lived in Glenburn. He served in the American Army in WWI, and Battery D, 304th Field Artillery (Claus Bang has postcard with that designation written to Walter's parents during the war). While in France he was gassed by the Germans, which had lasting medical effects on him.
Here is a link to a book about the 304th. http://www.archive.org/stream/autobiographyofr00howa#page/n0/mode/2up They fought in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France; the last major battle of WWI, which led to the Armistice (End of the War).
Back in the states he worked as a ditch digger. He spent his last days at the old soldier's home in Linton, ND and died of a strange accident while there. Anna believed he had been murdered for his pension.
