About Wardell Spencer Sartain
Wardell Spencer Sartain, son of Arthur and Sylvia Sartain, was born November 8, 1908, at Osage, Minnesota. He passed away at the St. Joseph's hospital in St. Paul on June 29, 1963. Cause of death was coronary thrombosis. He had been sick three days.
Mr. Sartain received his education in the Osage school, Park Rapids high school and the DeVry Technical Institute. He was married on February 21, 1929 to Elaine Wilcox at Moorhead. The Sartain's have lived in Detroit Lakes, Akeley and Nevis. While in Nevis he lived on a farm west of town and later was employed as janitor of the Nevis School. He was also a semi-professional baseball player, carpenter, insurance salesman, and was employed by Nash Finch and Swift and Co. He was affiliated with the Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ on July 3 with Ronald Keeler officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Delton Olander and Mrs. Ronald Romer who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond The Sunset"
Pallbearers were Herb Wolff, Don Davis, Dewey Miller, Frank Dawson, Clifford Warren, and Ray Demon.
Interment was in the Osage Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Elaine and four children, Warren, Connie (Mrs. Clarence Young) of Nevis, Marlene (Mrs. Earl Dierks) of St. Paul, and Judy (Mrs. Merwyn Olson) of St. Paul. Twelve grandchildren, two brothers, Kenneth of Osage, and Orville of San Diego, California, two sisters Sylvia Tigue and Laura Sartain of Osage, and a host of friends.
Erickson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
