Birth: Mar. 10, 1907 Death: Sep. 29, 1999

Wayne Ronka was a veteran who served as a Musician 1st Class (SEA) in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had played trombone in the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. He was a resident of Verdugo Hills at the time of his death at the age of 92. Wayne donated his body to medical science for study at the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. At the completion of the study his body was cremated and attempts were made to locate his family. When no family could be found, the director of the university's Willed Body Program, Nina McCoy-Adkins, determined that he was a veteran and contacted the Missing in America Project. The MIAP arranged for burial with full military honors. He was one of nine veterans interred on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 6, 2008 in the first Southern California ceremony for the Missing in America Project before a crowd of 300 attendees. COL Lewis Millet, a Medal of Honor recipient from the Korean War recited "A Soldier's Prayer," his own composition, to a standing ovation. Also in attendance was Clinton Adams, dean of Western University's College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, himself a retired Navy Rear Admiral, and representatives from the offices of Sen. Barbara Boxer, Rep. Mary Bono, Rep. Ken Calvert, and L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, and other various veterans organizations.
