Memorial
Wendell Albin Hemming , 79, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and well respected friend to all who knew him of the 1000 block of Ferry Plantation Road, died peacefully at home Feb. 3, 2004, surrounded by his family.
Born in Painsville, Mich., June 6, 1924, he was the son of the late Albert and Hilma Marie Onkka Hemming .Wendell retired as a CPO ATC after 21 years of service with the U.S. Navy in 1961 and 20 years with civil service, NTDC. He was also a part-time tree surgeon and painter. His memberships included past president of Finlandia Association, secretary of Flyers Golf Association, Fleet Reserve Association and Our Saviors Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his brother, Vernon Hemming ; sister, Fay Moore; daughters, Gail Christine Hemming and Wendie Louise Hill; son, Eric Wendell Hemming ; five grandchildren, Tifanie and husband Wayne Burch, Jennifer Behr, Elizabeth Shonyo, Stephen Hemming and James Eric Hill; six great- grandchildren, Wendell, Kristie Lynn and Ashly Burch, Devin, Kyle and Ricki Keenan; a special friend, Sandy Mathias; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Phyllis Virginia Soder Hemming and siblings, Thurston , Robert, Ralph, Sheldon, Carol and John.
