[Interesting to note are the different ages at which Wesley is listed on census returns. In 1840, he was between 30 and 39 years of age. In 1850, he was enumerated as 41. On the 1860 census, he was listed as 47. T he 1870 shows him as 45 and the 1880 enumerates him as a 67 year old. The newspaper mention of his death in 1886, according to Walter Netson, stated Wesley was 77. Obviously the birth year of 1825 cannot be correct since his son Asa was born in 1832, so he was probably born in either 1809 or 1813.] Walter Netson (great great grandson) related that at the time of his death Wesley was with his son, Asa, who was a minister. "I have located his unmarked grave in [Abilene] "City Cemetery", Tx. I have also found a news item which states that he [Wesley] had died at the home of his son - Asa- on 8 June at the age of 77. He was buried the following day. Except for a plat book there is no record of the burial. Even so, the record shows "Mr. Goddard". Bcause there are no other Goddard in the cemetery in the area I feel very comfort-able in accepting it as being Wesley Goddard. Other, more complete records, ie; names, dates etc, for cemeteres in Abilene were not begun until 1886." (Walter I. Net son) Wesley, a 67 year old widower, was born in Tennessee. His father was born in England and his mother in Tennessee. Wesley was enumerated as a 45 year old white male born in Tennessee. Others in this household were Francis (age 42 born in Kentucky), James ( age 18), Louiza (age 16), John (age 11) and Johnson (age 5). All the children were born in Arkansas. [Walter Netson and I believe these were the children of Francis from a previous marriage as all of them were born prior to Wesley and Francis' marriage.] Wesley Goddard, 47 years old, was a married white male born in Tennessee. Others in this house-hold were Nancy (37), Columbus (22), Mary (19), J essee (18), Harriett (17), Franklin , Dalace , Timothy and F anny (4/12). Wesley was a 41 year old white male born in Tennessee with $300 worth o f real estate. Others in this household were his wife (Nancy), six son s (Asa, Columbus, Jesse, Marion, James, and Timothy) and three daughtefs (Immentha, Mary Ann and Harriet). The household of "Westly Goddard" contained one male 0-4 (George Columb us), one male 5-9 (Asa), one male 30-39 (Wesley), one female 0-4 (Mary A nn), one female 5-9 (Emandethe) and one female 30-39 (Nancy).
