About Wichman Mesenbring

1689 Poll Tax Register

His widow (unnamed) is mentioned in the 1689 Poll Tax register as living in Norddrebber, a village close to Gilten. Norddrebber didn't have its own church, so they went to Gilten for church.

Neustadt Am Rübenberge Records

Wichman (spelled "Wichman Mehsenbringk") is listed as a "köter" (cottager - a person who owned their own home and a small amount of land) in a book about Neustadt Am Rübenberge in the 16th-18th centuries. He is listed there as being married to Anna Beßmans. On the same page are Anna Hoper and Anna Eilers (Mesenbrink).

Wichman is also mentioned in the same book along with an inventory of his property:

Wiechman Mehsenbrinck, Köter (cottager), Vogtei Stöckem Nortdrever (Norddrebber):
Wohnung (property/residence): 1
Rottland (some kind of land?): 1
Kühe (cows): 2
Rinder (cattle): 2
Schweine (pigs): 1

Gilten Church Record Book

Wichman is mentioned in the Gilten church book in the baptism records of three children from 1656 - 1665. His baptism is not recorded in the Gilten church book, which means he was probably born before 1632, when the church started recording baptisms. It is likely that Johan Mesenbring was his father, since Johan is recorded as having a daughter baptized in 1634.

There is a record of a Wichmann Mesenbringk who lived in Norddrebber in the 1585 Calenberg Muster Roll, so it is likely that this person is his descendant.

There are a few other Mesenbrings who are mentioned in the Gilten church book around the same time, so they are probably his siblings, cousins and/or other close relations.
