About Wife of Lot .

  • Genesis 19:26 - looks back at destruction of Sodom, turned into Pillar of Salt.]

Is mentioned only briefly in the Bible. Her name is not mentioned, but is called Idis or Ado in non-canonical sources (where?). She was turned into a pillar of salt, for looking back upon the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

The Midrash explains that she objected to her husband hosting the angels/messengers that had come to rescue them from the destruction of Sodom. So she went around to her neighbors asking "can I borrow some salt, because I have guests". In this way she made it known that they were there. This is why she was punished by turning into salt, while looking back at Sodom, where her true nature belonged.
