OBITUARY- Howard Seaman, 79, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at his residence.

He was born in Wood County, a son of the late Wilbur and Edith (Virden) Seaman.

He retired after 46 years from Corning Glass and attended Vienna Wesleyan Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He loved gardening and growing flowers. He did ministry work in local nursing homes and enjoyed doing any work for the Lord.

He is survived by a son, Herbert H. Seaman of Charleston; daughter, Sherry Seaman of Parkersburg; niece, Brenda Thomas (Roy); nephew, Willis Ayres III; nephew, Douglas Ayres; and niece, Cathy Buchanan (Todd), all of Pennsylvania; and a sister-in-law, Sybil Gainguzzo of Arcadia, Fla., and her children, Marci and Joe Gainguzzo. He is also survived by a daughter and son from a previous marriage, Caroline and Michael Seaman, as well as their children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Winona M. (Swisher) Seaman; step-father, Hurbert Ruble; sister, Gerladene Hanley-Jones; and half-sister, Susan Perry.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Russell Wooten officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery North with military honors by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday.
