About LCpl. Wilfred Butler
On Tuesday, September 3, 1918, Lance Corporal (LCpl) Butler was originally struck by shrapnel under the left eye. When a fellow soldier helped move him to safety they came under heavy artillery fire and Butler was struck and killed (Reference: Casualty Report and Newspaper Obituary posted in "Media" tab above). LCpl. Butler is buried in a wartime provisional grave near the Canal du Nord in France. His ultimate sacrifice is officially recognized on the Canadian "Vimy Memorial" near Vimy, France, and in published reference material found in Canada.
