About Willem Schoemaker
https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willem_Schoemaker_(1920-2003)
Willem Schoemaker ( Deventer , February 18, 1920 – Helmond , March 13, 2003 ), code name "Miki", was deputy head of the Secret Service of the Netherlands (GDN) from 1944 to 1945. He was appointed deputy chief of the GDN by founder Joep Iansen (codename Max ) on 21 April 1944, following the latter's departure to England via Spain. Due to the arrest of Iansen in Spain, he remained so until after the liberation. Schoemaker was a student of medicine at the University of Groningen and, at the age of 23, succeeded Jo Pennings as GDN's second man. [1]From September 1943 he had been the GDN's desk manager in Amsterdam. [2]
During the Hunger Winter , he had 40 tons of foodstuffs come from Friesland for his group. [3] In April 1945 he negotiated with the Germans Kolitz , Schreieder and Schöngarth . He heard from Schöngarth that Seyss-Inquart and Blaskowitz wanted to make an arrangement for the occupied Netherlands, and forwarded this to SHAEF , unaware that his mediation was no longer necessary. [4]
Iansen and Schoemaker stood before the court in Utrecht in 1991 on the question of who the real founder of the GDN was. Iansen had filed summary proceedings against Schoemaker about this. Both sides strongly reproach each other for their conduct during the war. The court rejected Iansen's claim, partly because it was not sufficiently urgent to be allowed to conduct summary proceedings. There was therefore no substantive judgment on the claim.
