Willemina Verbeek

Her parents were Hendrik Verbeek and Geertje Kaptijn. She married1 with Koenraad De Jong on 5 May 1840 in Schoonhoven, Z-Holland. She married2 with Geert Laug in Marion Co, IA, on 27 Aug 1867.

De Volksvriend [located in Orange City, Iowa] dated 19 June 1884, p. 3, col 2: In Pella's Weekblad of 13 June we read: "The wife of our citizen G. Laug has been ill for some time now and in such a way that there is little hope for recovery." With this, we now know that Mrs. Laug is deceased. We do not know any further details. Ms. Laug was, as we believe, the mother of nine children from her first marriage of which Hendrik, Pieter, Koen, Jakobus, Adrianus and Willem de Jong were among the most esteemed residents of our colony, while another son and daughter are in Oregon. De Volksvriend dated 26 June 1884, p. 3, col 6: Today died to our deepest sadness after a relatively short period, our dearly beloved mother, Wilhelmina Laug, born Verbeek, at the age of over 68 years. The loss of our caring and loving mother is hard for us. But the thought that she has gone to her Savior whom she loves, brings God's silence. Hendrik de Jong and my brothers. Pella, 15 Juni, 1884.
