Pioneer Take By Death William W. Allis Had Been Ill For Many Years Well-Known Manufacturer--Recently Lost a Brother by Death. Was a Native of Milwaukee.

After an illness of several months, William W. Allis, eldist son of the late E. P. Allis, died in his residence, Marshall st, Thursday afternoon. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon. One brother, Charles Allis, Chairman of the Milwaukee county council of defense, died recently.

Mr. Allis was born in Milwaukee on Nov. 14, 1849. His education was received in the public schools and Markham's academy and little Blue Academy at Farmington, MO. On Nov. 1877, he was married to Miss Mary Phillips.

Books were Mr. Allis hobby and in his home at 426 Marshall st he had one of the finest collection of rare autographed copies of the books in the country, including an autographed copy by Queen Victoria. A lover of literature, Mr. Allis was one of the best read men in the city. He was particularly noted for his ardent Americanism and was one the most generous contributors to all patriotic causes.

"I feel that one of the best known educators of our city has passed away" saint Principal George Koeppel at the twenty-first st School. " I shall always think of him as a colleague whom i deeply respected, as a true gentleman, and a school man who has set a fine example to his fellow teachers, and whose excellent advice on all matters pertaining to the welfare of our children was always ably and cheerfully rendered.

Mr. Allis is survived by his wife, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Allis Keeling, England, Mrs. Eustance Conway, New York and Mrs. R. H. Norris, Milwaukee.

He was a member of the Milwaukee Town, Country and Athletic clubs.
