William Bailey Jr. was likely born in the late 1630s or early-mid 1640s, the son of William Bailey Sr. and Grace.[Research Notes]
William Bailey Jr., along with his parents and siblings, were listed on a 1694 land survey for John Stepney (William's brother-in-law) as persons transported to Albemarle, North Carolina. The date of transport was either damaged or illegible on the record, but likely occured in the mid to late 1660s.[1]
He married a daughter of Hugh Parsons,[2][3][4] probably in the late 1660s. Her identity is unknown, and her name is never given in any record. She may have been identical with Hugh's daughter Hannah.[Research Notes] There is evidence they only had one child:
Hugh Bailey,[2][3][4] born between 1663 (was still a minor by 1684)[5] and 1670, though likely closer to 1670 William Bailey put his mark to the contents of his father's inventory taken on December 1669.[6]
William Bailey may have been at John Almy's house in Puncatest[2] when he died March 15, 1669/70.[7] He gave a non-cupative will on his deathbed, which was repeated by Isaac Lawton and recorded on May 30, 1670. In it he mentions his brother John, son Hugh, and asks that Thomas Lawton look after Hugh's inheritance, and if not then his "father Persons".[2] His inventory, valued at £56-11-06, was taken July 16, 1670 by Thomas Lawton, John Sanford, and Hugh Parsonn.[7]
On July 20, 1670 (recorded March 19, 1672/3) an agreement was made between Hugh Parsons and his daughter, who was then the widow of William Bayly Jr., regarding the care and guardianship of Hugh Bailey.[3] That the same day Hugh Parsons gave bond to the Portsmouth town council to take custody of the "estate [Hugh Parson's] gran child Hugh Bayly [received from] his deceased father William Bayly".[4] Hugh Bayly was later mentioned in Hugh Parson's 1683/4 will.[5]

"Careful here, it is easy to mistake this William Bailey with his son William, they were both married to women named Grace, the son to Grace Parsons. Both died in Newport, Rhode Island. The son is probably the one that bought land from Gabriel Hicks, but possibly not. The Stewart Bailey book by Walter C. Bailey, printed about 1927 by the Barnhart-Van Trum Company added more information, though the author was wrong about the Bailey's that came over on the "Bevis" in 1638 being our direct ancestors. Most information found on FTM, LDS, Ancestry.com and other places relied on Austin's "Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island" for early family information. This resulted in confusion on the first 2 William Bailey's that had both married women named Grace. The " Bailey Genealogy" complied by William Perry Johnson in 1967 from records in North Carolina as well as Rhode Island cleared up that problem and we now have what I think will prove to be the most accurate and complete Bailey study ever. Taken from the Family Tree online---recorded by Lester Odenwald"
