About William Balfour
William Balfour died in 1879 after a long illness, leaving mother(Agnes) a widow at 37 with eight children, the oldest 16. Their money had all gone in doctor's bills so Margaret, Jack and Jim had to get busy and make a living for all. Mother went with the doctor and learned practical nursing and, so, we managed to live.
