His first wife Lydia Morrow died in childbirth when her son Stephen was born. His second wife was Nancy Grimes. His Mother Jemima was living in his home at this time.Stephen and his son Alfred both died at the same time. There may have been some sort of epidemic at that time. Upon the petition of Stephen BIVENS it is ordered by the Court that Jonathan I BIFFLE S S SHIELDS T M MORGAN A M BUIE Wm BURKET and Thomas SHIELDS be appointed [a jury - crossed out] and summonds & qualified by the Sheriff of Wayne County to view and mark out a change in the road of first Class leading from Waynesboro to Eastport to leave the old road at the line dividing the lands of the said BIVENS turning to the right and run with the foot of the hill and intersect the same at the foot of the hill North of where Isaac MORRIS now lives and that they report the same to the next term of this Court and that order Issue Issd Dec 7 1852 Page 321 Thursday October 6th 1853 John MORROW & Stephen BIVENS Adm’r of Thomas MORROW dec’d vs Mary MORROW et al§ Petition to seel Land Be it remembered that this cause came on for a final hearing this 6th day of October 1853 before the Honorable Elijah WALKER Judge &c upon the report of the Clerk & Master of this Court which is now on file in this cause and it appearing to the Court from said report that that the purchase money for which said land mentioned in the pleadings in this cause has been paid It is therefore ordered adjudged and decreed by the Court that all the right title claim and interest of Mary MORROW John W MORROW Newton F MORROW Sophia A. MORROW William A. MORROW and Thomas M. MORROW the parties mentioned in the pleadings in this cause be divested out of them in the following described tract of land mentioned in this cause in Range 9 & section 4 on the waters of Green River in the County of Wayne and State of Tennessee beginning on a white oak which Stands 46 poles west from the South East corner of a 25 acre Entry in the name of Henry OAKS thence South 70 poles to a while oak & pointers thence West 48 poles to a stake in the E.B. of Entry No. 968 for 160 acres thence North 110 poles to a corner of said Oaks tract thence East 12 poles to a chestnut thence South 12 poles to a stake thence East 14 poles to a stake thence South 12 poles to a stake & pointers thence East 22 poles to a stake thence South 22 poles to a stake the beginning containing by estimation thirty acres and 72 poles and that the title of the same be vested in the said William B. SHIELDS his heirs and assigns forever. And it is further ordered by the Court that the Clerk & Master after reducing [?] the necessary costs and expenses of this cause pay over the balance of the proceeds of the said land to the said John MORROW and Stephen BIVENS administrators as aforesaid to be discharged by them according to law. From Chancery Court Loose Records, 2 Sep 1866, Folder 9, Box C, 59 pages ELIZABETH BEVINS and JOHN H COLE, guardian of EPHRAIM, N.S. and ISADORA BEVINS, would show unto your honor that STEPHEN BEVINS, father of ELIZABETH BEVINS, departed this life about the year 1858, leaving considerable amount of personal property to be distributed equally among Elizabeth, Amarintha, Ephraim, N.S. and Isodora Bevins, all of whom are minor orphans. S.L. Shields was appointed guardian to said minors, with WILLIAM WEST, JONATHAN MORRIS and WILLIAM A MERRIMAN, his securities, orator would state, that in the year 1861, S.L. Shields possessed himself of the whole of the distributive share of all his said wards, no part having been accounted for except the share of AMARINTHA and twenty dollars to ELIZABETH. Balance amounted to twelve hundred dollars or more and still due them. In 1864 the said S.L. Shields departed this life intestate, and Jon A Tally was appointed guardian, and in 1866 William A Merriman departed this life and John Jackson is his administrator. In depositions M.J. Sims finds one receipt given to B.A. Copeland and his wife Martha E Copeland, formerly Bevins on 20 May 1861 for $125. Some of Shields's books and papers were burned in his house after his death. MARINTHA BEDFORD, "I received $260 from said Shields. I think I received my entire amount.ELIZABETH MOORE "I received five dollars and a saddle, but the saddle was not paid for." NATHANIEL BEVINS "I have received nothing" NANCY BEVINS, "I did not receive anything from him, in either money, clothing or schooling. The said Sheilds was guardian for the five heirs." MORGAN or any five of them be appointed a jury of view to view to view[sic] and mark out a change in the road leading from Waynesboro to Florence to leave the old road at the south end of said BIVENS lain and intersect said road again at or near the ford of Green River North of Lewis HARDINs place and that said jury make report to the next term of this Court Isued Decr 3, 1851 [page 369] Monday Augus [sic] 1, 1853 Ordered by the Court that John P McBRIDE be appointed overseer of the road of first Class leading from Waynesboro to East Port from the line dividing the lands of Stephen BIVENS and J. I. BIFFLE to the head of the Indian Creek Hollow in the place of Alfred BIRMINGHAM removed and that he have the hands in the same bounds to work under his direction. Issd Aug. 8, 1953 Ordered by the Court that John B. BEAKLY be appointed Overseer of the road of first Class leading from Waynesboro to East Port from the line dividing the lands of Stephen BIVENS and J. I.
