About William Bland
The will of William Bland I (retrieved https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939L-JZ9F-TG?i=17&wc=10...) does not indicate his wife. However, it does tell us many things. William names his sons as William Bland and his wife Rachel, Thomas Bland, Charles Bland, Joseph Bland, James Bland, John Bland; and daughter Mary Casher (sp?); grandson James Bland (son of William and Rachel). The will was written March 19, 1775, with sons William and James as executors. Witnessed by Rachel Powell and Thomas Lee Hanchy.
Here may be where the myth is generated that Rachel Powell was the wife of William Bland II. If she had been, she would have signed her mark to the name "Rachel Bland." That is not the case.
