MARLBOROUGH DAILY TIMES, 21 AUGUST 1883
We to-day have to record the sudden death of a very old resident in the district, Mr William Brydon, sen., at the age of 65 years. The deceased had a paralytic stroke about two years ago, and although not very robust in health, no danger was feared. About six o’clock last night, while in the enjoyment of his usual health, he was suddenly seized with another paralytic stroke, and lingered on in a quiet sleep as it were until eight, when he breathed his last. The late Mr Brydon came out with the original New Zealand Company about 42 years ago, and had been in the Company’s employ connected with the survey both here and in Nelson till that Company’s withdrawal from active operations here. The deceased leaves a widow and a family of ten, all of whom are, however, grown up. The sudden demise of the late Mr Brydon has caused quite a gloom over Renwick-town, where he was much respected. The funeral will leave his late residence for the Wairau cemetery on Thursday next at one oclock.
