About William Camp, of Milford

The son of my ancestors, NICHOLAS & SARAH CAMP, he was baptized on October 26, 1638 in the colony of New Haven.

In 1667 he along with members of other prominent Milford families such as the Baldwin and Burwell families were the second group from Milford to remove to Newark, New Jersey signing the Fundamental Agreement on June 24, 1667. His homelot was #34. Records show that he had 152 acres in 1670.

In October of 1681, William Camp was one of the persons who inventoried the estate of Martin Tichanor of Newark and was named as an "overseer" of the estate. He also witnessed the will of Joseph Riggs of Newark, dated January 1, 1688/89. In November of 1689, he was a overseer of the estate of John Baldwin of Newark. He held various town offices between 1670 and 1696, one of which in 1693 was "Overseer of the Poor".

William is most likely the son of NICHOLAS CAMP and SARAH [UNKNOWN] CAMP:

Origins===William Camp was probably a son of Nicholas Camp (1606 - 1662). We have no actual record of their relationship. The evidence that they were father and son is circumstantial.

William Camp was born 1638 at either Nazeing, England or Milford, NewHaven, Connecticut and was baptized on October 26, 1638 in the colonyof New Haven. (SOURCE???) We know that there were six men named Campe aboard ship. Of these, William and Edward are often named as sons of Nicholas Camp, Sr. DonaldLines Jacobus summarized, The appearance of the names Edward and William may or may not have special significance as indicating that the American Edward and William were related to Nicholas Camp.
