About William Cate
http://www.museumnp.org.nz/early-settlers/voyageDetails.aspx?voyage...
William and Harriet brought their family to New Zealand as passengers on the settler ship BOLTON which sailed from Gravesend, England 29 October 1841 and arrived in Nelson 15 March 1842.
They were listed on the ship's manifest as KATE, William 29, agricultural labourer, Harriet 30, William Jnr 18, agricultural labourer, John 14, agricultural labourer, William 10, Henry 9, Charles 7 and Emily 4.
Williams first two wives, Ann and Jane died in 1831 and 1839 so he had quite a family when he married Harriet; their children were born in New Zealand. Also with them was Harriet's son William Lipscombe from her first marriage (he is listed as William Kate).
They settled at Milton Grove and William engaged in working as a well sinker for some years. He later worked as a labourer.
