About William Cissne
- From a posting by Peter Edward Diehr at https://www.ancestry.com/boards/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=1&p=surnames.... (posted: 18 Sep 2014 05:15PM):
- William Cissne Sr. was born in Pennsylvania ~1780; his father was Joseph Cissne (1747-1803), a captain in the Pennsylvania militia in 1783; see Pennsylvania Archives: Sixth Series, Volume 2.
- The family had moved to Detroit, Michigan by 1787 - there is testimony before the Detroit Land Board that John Cissne had taken up land on the River Rouge in 1787.
- William had two brothers, John and James, and a sister Sarah. Sarah married Godfroy Corbus, a resident of Detroit.
- Joseph Cissne was active in local politics; he is written about in Charles Burton's "City of Detroit, Michigan, 1701-1922", Volume 1 (1922).
- For the estate of Joseph Cissne: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-29026-8386-67?...
- William Cissne Sr. married Hannah Dix (~1782-1813); he died in late 1807 or 1808. The Wayne County probate records have a wealth of information on the estate of Joseph Cissne, William Cissne, and Hannah Dix Cissne; there were four children from this marriage - William Cissne Jr. is the youngest, he was born in 1804.
- I discovered this while looking into the life of Hannah Dix - she was the sister of my g.g.g. grandmother.
