GEDCOM Note

HUGE thing: 1870 William reports that his father was of foreign birth. I've been looking at all the other family trees and one reports that he was born in County Cork. Wouldn't that be great?

History from here on back is dubious. I don't have any idea where the Mercer in his name comes from. And then the next generation up is just a mess. George Rogers Clark is a revolutionary war hero. He didn't marry. So the genealogies out there, and there are some formally prepared ones, that have this William as a son of a George Rogers Clark married to a Jane Mercer, and tracing Clarks back through John Clark and Ann Rogers Clark, are clearly not the same Clarks. Bummer because those are the Clarks of Lewis and Clark. But not our Clarks. Someone named George Simmons was looking into this ca 2001. could see if he can be contacted: From: "George Simmons"
