About William Carter Clayton, I
William Clayton, Sr. served in the Revolutionary War in South Carolina, and supplied rations to the Patriots during this conflict. This has been established by Faith Clayton through various records. William served under Colonel Benjamin Roebuck's Regiment of the South Carolina Militia, as a Sergeant. William settled down in the Pickens County, SC area after the War, and owned several thousand acres of land in that area, at one time, and over a period of time. He served during the battle of King's Mountain, and also during the battle of The Cowpens.
Records of William's service are on file in the Clayton Room, at Southern Wesleyan College, Liberty, Pickens Co., SC, and were obtained by Faith Clayton when she was researching the family background.
