About William Cole

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cole-963

William Cole was born the second son of William Cole and Anne Colles. He was born c. 1583. The birth year is estimated on the notice by the family historian[1] where his older brother, Michael, stated to be 20 years 9 months on 16 February 1602[2] and thus born c. May 1581. It is likely that William was born shortly after and estimated at 1583.

In the genealogical history of the Peerage of Ireland, by Lodge, Vol 6, page 42,[3] he is said to have married Elizabeth Deards, daughter of merchant (a silkman), Nathanael Deards of London.

ELIZABETH DEARDS Married WILLIAM COLE (64-1) probably about 1569, in Essex County, England. Elizabeth was born about 1550, in London, England, died in England.

They had children:

  1. Arthur Cole. Who died without children.[4]
  2. William Cole. Who died without children.[5]
  3. Michael Cole. Who died without children.[6]
  4. Humphrey Cole. His detail is not provided by the family historian although it might be presumed he had no children as his younger brother becomes heir.
  5. Nathaniel Cole. Appears on page 32 of the work by the family historian.[7] He settled in Wigtown, Lincolnshire, prior to 1665.
  6. Thomas Cole. Studied Theology at Westminster and later Christ Church, Oxford. Died September 1697. No notice of any children.
  7. Robert Cole. Becomes Sir Robert Cole of Ballymackey, Tipperary, Ireland. Knighted 25 March 1671. MP for Enniskillen in 1661 and attainted in 1688/89.
