William Henry Denney

From "Genealogy of the Family of Azariah Martin Denny, Son of Edmond Denny, G G Grandson of Samuel Denny," Compiled by Sylvester Denny, December 29, 1978 (self-published).

William was born abut 1750 probably in what was then Albemarle County, Virginia as he is reported to have married Rebecca Hooper of that county. He came to Surry with his father, Samuel, and settled on an axe entry on Ararat River near Cedar Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Even though he is listed in Joel Denny's letter first, certain facts lead me to believe that John was the elder one and that William was one of the middle children.

He and his wife had three sons and four daughters.

William Denny was also the grantee under two grants of land from the State of North Carolina dated 1793 and 1797 on or near the Ararat River and adjoining his other lands. William and his wife remained in Surry County when the others were moving westward and both died and were buried on the farm where they had lived.

Since William had only three sons and the elder one, Samuel, died young, and the next, Lazarus, moved to Ohio, there was only one of his sons that remained in Surry, Azariah, and he is next of the Dennys to be discussed.
