About William Benjamin Deyampert
WILLIAM BENJAMIN DEYAMPERT was born on May 11, 1837, and married EMMA T. PORTIS of Suggsville on May 11, 1864. He attended the University of Alabama. He served as a lieutenant in the Confederate States Army and he owned four slaves in 1860. In early 1860, two of DeYampert�s slaves, named Isaac and William, ran away from his plantation. Traveling at night and hiding during the day they headed for North Carolina. William was arrested crossing the railroad bridge on the Coosa River, and Isaac was caught and jailed in Augusta, Georgia.
